A new year means new goals.
And we’re here to help you set your BJJ goals!

Writing down your goal increases the chances of you achieving them by 42%.
So grab your pen and paper and get to work.

You can distinguish between training goals and competitive goals:

Training Goals
– How many times per week will you train?
– What positions will you work on? (barbell strategy*)
– What will you improve physically off the mats? (e.g., flexibility, strength, cardio, diet)
– What will you improve mentally off the mats? (e.g., discipline, competitive mindset, studying matches)

Competitive Goals
– Which competitions do you want to join?
– What results do you want to achieve?

Barbell Strategy
When choosing the positions to work on, you can apply the so-called barbell strategy. Originating in the financial world and developed by Nassim Taleb, it’s also highly applicable to BJJ.

The idea? Focus on extremes:
– 3 Strong Positions: Work on what you’re already good at and make it even better.
– 3 Weak Positions: Work on the areas where you struggle the most.

Avoid the “middle of the barbell” (positions you’re okay at but not great). Thanks to our curriculum, you’ll naturally work on all the important positions anyway. Focus your own study and free training on the barbell’s extremes.
