Do you want to start with BJJ?

Then you are at the right place. Our instructors have taught the basics of BJJ to hundreds of beginners.

Here are the three most important tips for beginners:

TIP 1: STAY CALM
This is super important. Many people go into fight-or-flight mode when they start sparring. The big secret is to stay calm. Why? This way you can focus on the techniques you have learned, you waste less energy, and your opponent can move you more difficultly. Just think about it: who can you lift more easily? Someone who tenses up, or someone who is completely relaxed on the ground?

TIP 2: TAKE NOTES
Everyone learns in a different way, but what works well for many of our members is taking notes right after the class. This way you can easily review what you have learned. Go over the techniques in your mind once more. Research shows that visualizing techniques works almost as well as physically practicing them.

TIP 3: CONSISTENCY IS KEY
We get it, BJJ is a lot of fun. But don’t go from 0 training sessions to 10 training sessions a week all at once. It will be hard for your body to keep up. Moreover, there is a good chance that you will then need to recover for a week. Aim to train 2 to 3 times a week at the beginning, and gradually build it up from there.
