IBJJF Madrid Results

With a strong delegation, our competition team flew to Madrid to participate in the IBJJF Madrid Open. The boys and girls did great, with the following results:

With gi:

🥇🥈 Kate dominated her division, with a quick submission in the semifinals, and then a 25-0 (!!) victory in the finals. She then proceeded to the open class, where she was again very dominant. Unfortunately, she was stopped in the finals.

🥉 Rodney started his match well and managed to sweep, but then lost by a submission on the back.

🥉 Daniel participated in his first IBJJF gi competition in 4 years. The first match went well, I won with a collar choke from the back. I lost the second match with 2 advantages, resulting in bronze.

Nogi:

🥇 Master Kevin’s result was no surprise to any of us on the competition team. His hard work over the past years paid off today with two dominant victories by submission. In signature Haven style, he used his guillotines and half guard to secure the gold.

🥈 Kate also made her presence felt in nogi. The semifinals were again won dominantly, but in the finals, the opponent proved to be a size too big. Silver this time.

🥉🥉 Annika and Ashley unfortunately both lost their first match and are going home with many new lessons.

Daan started very well, but during a wild scramble, his shoulder dislocated. Meanwhile, it is back in place and his recovery process begins.

🥇🥈 Joran again showed that he belongs to the elite of Europe by winning his division in a dominant manner. After a tense moment with a footlock that was deemed illegal, this was corrected by the VAR, and he could continue to win the gold.

In the Open Class, he continued his dominance, submitted an ultra-heavyweight within a minute, and faced Tristan from CheckMat Amsterdam in the finals. Joran started great, applied a tight arm lock, got to the back, and passed the guard. Then it went wrong: Tristan managed to set up a buggy choke, and Joran could no longer defend it. After a great match between two Dutchmen, it is silver in the open class.

🥇 Jivi flew through his division. A quick choi bar gave him his first victory, and a Woj lock in the final earned him the gold medal. Very impressive from our coach who combines his full-time job with competitive training and teaching.

🥇🥇 Michael Farmer Boy had a bit of bad luck with his category, as no one showed up, he directly got gold. In the open class, there was only one match: it was dominantly won by Boerenjongen.

🥈 Sarah had a very tough bracket. The first match was a war against a European champion. Sarah showed beautiful jiu jitsu, countered all the attacks from her opponent, and won the match, despite a severe nosebleed, with a two-point lead. The next European champion she faced in the final. This time it unfortunately went less smoothly, and Sarah ended up in a submission. Silver for coach Sarah!

🥇 Kamen showed why he is such a good competitor. He managed to neutralize his opponents in a calm and dominant manner to walk away with the gold.

🥇 Daniel had only one opponent, and it went smoothly: a sweep, a pass, a backtake, and from there an arm-in rear naked for the submission. Gold!

🏆 Both gi and nogi made a significant contribution to the team score, as CheckMat became the best team in both categories, partly thanks to us!
