PanAms Results

Mootje, Kamen, Sarah, and Daniel participated in the PanAms in New York this weekend, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments on the BJJ calendar.

Top athletes from all over the world traveled to the big apple to win a medal.

Mootje had to battle with the scale and had to lose a few ounces at the last moment. He gave it his all and managed to make weight. The weight cut did play a role in his match, and after a good start, he was submitted.

Kamen started as he always does: calm and controlled. In his first match, he had footlock after footlock, scoring advantages and winning. In the second match, he quickly got points on the board and then dominated the match. The quarterfinals started well and were very close. However, Kamen fell behind with an advantage, and his opponent smartly capitalized on that.

Sarah won her first match within the first minute with a footlock. The semifinals were more exciting, but Sarah remained calm and won 4-2. Then she had to face a strong opponent in the final. Her back was almost taken, but Sarah defended and escaped masterfully. She even managed to get a rear triangle with a kimura grip, but her opponent was able to counter it and ultimately won on points. Silver for Sarah.

Daniel won his qualifying round with a kneebar. On day two, he eliminated Jacob Semsem in the quarterfinals with an arm triangle from the back. In the semifinals, he faced old rival Junny Ocasio, who proved to be too much this time as well. He managed to take Daniel's back, and Daniel ultimately had to tap to a rear triangle armbar. Bronze for Daniel.
