NAGA Results

This weekend NAGA was back in the Netherlands, The Hague to be precise. Our athletes Tyron and Oleg participated.

Tyrone had no one in his class and was placed in the Elite Teens category. He called me (Daniël) that morning: he found it exciting and hesitated to ask for his money back. I reassured him: he could definitely keep up with those ‘elite teens’, and as a white belt, he had nothing to lose. A little later, it turned out I was right: he lost one match on points and won one on points. Silver for our young front desk employee!

Oleg also participated, both with and without a gi. He dominated all four of his matches and went home with two gold medals!

4 Tips for parents of BJJ kids

Our kids and teens group is growing larger and is winning prizes more often. Many parents also want their child to get the most out of the BJJ training.

Here are 4 tips to help with that:

1. Let the coach do his/her job

Our coaches have a lot of experience teaching jiu jitsu to various children. Let the coach do his or her job. Instructions from parents on the sidelines cause distraction and confusion.

2. Be positive

Jiu jitsu should be fun. Focus after the training (or match) on the good things, not on the things that went wrong. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

3. Train along once

Training jiu jitsu together is great for the bond between parent and child and helps you as a parent understand better what your child is involved in.

If you want to start, we recommend our Fundamentals classes and/or the introductory course. You can read more about it further down in the newsletter.

4. Find the right method

Some children learn quickly and seek challenges. Then competitions and the competition group are a good idea. Ask the coaches about the possibilities.

Other children learn a bit slower or find it exciting in the group. Then private lessons can be very helpful: https://havenbjj.nl/priveleskids/

Harry & Skye married

This weekend coach Harry married his ex-girlfriend and now also ex-fiancée Skye. We want to wish you all the happiness on behalf of Haven BJJ!

As far as our records are correct, this is the first marriage between two people who train at Haven BJJ. A huge milestone!

In-House Tournament

Do you want to gain experience with competitions? Then we have good news.
On October 11, we will organize our In-House Tournament again.

This is the perfect opportunity for beginners to feel how a tournament goes. The excitement and the rules are just like in real competitions, but in a safe environment.

The tournament is specifically for white and blue belts. You can register here:

European Championship training camp

From October 19 to 26, we will prepare together with our friends from The House FC in Santos for the European Championship. The camp is led by coach Thiago Abreu.

Moreover, several European and Brazilian champions will join as guest instructors. There are 12 sessions, spread over 8 days. If you register for the camp, you will also receive an exclusive rashguard. The design will be announced soon.

This camp is for anyone who wants to challenge themselves and reach new physical and mental levels. It is not mandatory to be registered for the European Championship to participate. However, we recommend that you have at least 6 months of experience if you join. Are you in doubt? Then consult with your coach(es).
