Haven BJJ Rotterdam is one of the first schools in Europe that is officially part of The House FC International.
In 2012, Thiago Abreu and Gabriel Rollo opened a small jiu-jitsu academy in Santos, São Paulo.
Their goal was simple: to create a place where they could teach in their own way. At the highest level, but at the same time accessible and familiar to everyone. From recreational practitioners and children to ambitious competitive athletes.
Thus arose The House.
The name says exactly what The House stands for.
A house is a place where you feel welcome. Where you are part of something and where you can develop yourself.
That combination of high-level jiu-jitsu and a family feeling has formed the foundation of The House FC from the very beginning.
The training methods of The House quickly proved themselves at the highest level. Athletes trained within the academy won various world, Brazilian, and European titles over the years. The team opened a new location and gyms from all over the world joined in.
The history of Thiago and Gabriel was closely linked to Checkmat for many years. They were involved in the formation of the team and represented Checkmat around the world for eighteen years.
In 2026, that chapter came to an end.
After years of discussions and plans about their own future, the future of The House, and especially that of their students, Thiago and Gabriel decided it was time to continue independently.
Coach Daniel de Groot has been training and working under Thiago Abreu and Gabriel Rollo since 2015.
When their coaches decided in 2026 to continue with The House FC as an independent team, it was therefore natural that Haven BJJ would follow them.
This makes Haven BJJ one of the first schools in Europe that is officially part of The House FC International.
For Haven, this mainly changes the name under which we appear internationally. The relationship, training philosophy, and collaboration with our teachers in Brazil have existed for many years.
We continue to build on the same principles we have always stood for: high-level jiu-jitsu, strong personal bonds, and a gym where everyone can feel at home.
