Kevin van der Maarel originally got into martial arts through the gym.
Kevin is a child of the club, started at Haven BJJ just after the opening. As a coach, he teaches the Fundamentals class at noon, regular afternoon classes, kids classes, and the kids competition class. He strives for a balance between fun and challenge, as he believes that people learn best when they enjoy the process.
Kevin pays attention to everyone, from complete beginners to advanced athletes. He actively engages his students by asking questions and encouraging them to think for themselves, experiment, and develop their own understanding. In addition to jiu-jitsu, Kevin studies physiotherapy and has a strong interest in philosophy.
